Must-Have Shoes for Summer >>> Five Under $50

Smart Style: Ruby Slippers
It's been so freaking cold outside...
And I LOVE it!!!!!
And something else I love are these amazing Sole Society booties I've been gushing over since I first spotted them a couple of months back.
And do you know what my awesome MIL did??? She got them for me as an early Christmas gift!!! I was so excited to wear them to church yesterday, but paranoid at the same time that something would happen to them.
Are you like that with new shoes??? A spot of water dripped on them and I straight up panicked. Clearly I'm attached...methinks I need to come up with a name for these babies...
Ruby? Nah, too obvious.
Dorothy? Nah, too cheesy.
Captain and Tennille?
Sonny and Cher?
I'll keep thinking.
This week I'll be putting together some gift guides with the help of my friend Shellie's Black Friday deals she has on her site. For me, I would like to get the bulk of my shopping done this week. Ambitious, yes. Impossible, maybe. But I like being given ideas, so hopefully you will too. Give me a shout out in the comments if you'd like to see anything specific....i.e. gifts for your in-laws, quality toys for kids, meaningful gifts for friends, etc.

A Hump Day List

Black Booties {Save vs. Steal}
Even though my black booties are a few years old, there are almost identical ones in stores right now...so obviously, they have some staying power.
Black booties are shoes that work hard for the money...(so hard for you honey). Not only is the classic black timeless and versatile, but they can be worn with virtually any bottom you choose....skinny jeans, skirts, dresses, wide-leg trousers, etc. You can see my favorite way to wear them here.
When normally we see a "splurge versus steal" kind of comparison, I thought I'd change it up a bit since both of these options are affordable and there's not really a "splurge" per say....

Yes, the one on the right is a bit more, but it's still under $100 which is a bargain for a quality leather bootie that will last you.
If you already have a pair of black booties,
What is your favorite way to wear them?
and
Do you think they're a shoe staple?
Fall Must Have: Brown Riding Boots
I was really hoping to score a good Labor Day deal on some new boots, but there doesn't seem to be too much going on by way of "steals". At least not with fall fashion.
I'm specifically on the hunt for some brown riding boots. I'd love some heeled ones as well, but think I'd get the most for my investment out of a low (or no) heel. I just adore the classic look of structured riding boots with skinnies. It's basically a no-fail outfit...even if you have no idea what to wear on top. Pair anything from a tee to a button-up to a tunic with some dark wash jeans and knee high boots....DONE.
Just to give you a heads up now, the aforementioned combination will most likely be my uniform once this weather cools down. That is, if I can find some boots. I sure am doing my darndest to find the best ones for me....here's a few I've seen around.
1. Halogen - $219.95
2. Ralph Lauren -$149.99
3. Frye - $388
4. Jessica Simpson - $99
5. Vince Camuto - $159.90
6. Nine West - $159
What shade do you lean towards? Cognac? Chestnut? Luggage? Dirt? (Ha! Gotcha on that last one.)
Oh, and by the way....I'll give you one guess who's a 'DOT COMMER' now!!!!

Setting the Record Straight
![]() |
| shirt: CAbi, skirt (similar) and sunnies and shoes: Target, watch and bracelet (similar): MK, necklaces: Jennywear and Arttie |
Well, here these shoes are again. For the record, I'd like to set a few things straight:
1. When I blogged here about buying these for my mom and then wearing them before I gave them to her....yeah, these aren't the same shoes. I actually found these on a subsequent Target run for $8 (in my own size)!!!!! They are still in stores, so I bet steals can yet be found. This style also comes in a splendid turquoise.
2. Even though my toes appear to be hanging over the edge of a too-small shoe, I argue that they are simply taking a peek at their surroundings below. Really they do fit, however, this was taken after two hours of walking around...can you blame them?
3. And third....well, I don't really have a third thing to set straight for the record, so I'll just say a quick thank you....I really appreciated all the sweet comments on my vlog post this week! Thank you so much friends (and new friends)!
Yippie, it's Friday! My days really got mixed up this week. I kept thinking Thursday was Saturday. This weekend brings my sister-in-law's bachelorette party....I'm so looking forward to lounging by the pool, getting a spa treatment, eating yummy food, and hanging out with some lovely ladies! TTFN!
The Shoes
This is a really tardy follow-up to the teaser I posted way back when regarding my bridesmaid shoes for my SIL's wedding this summer....
but alas, here they are (sans the hosiery of course).
And here's my dress:
Wedding season is upon us. My mom and I are going to one this weekend that I'm really excited about. I just love weddings! Don't you?
Step-Sister Feet
I have a shoe problem. I'm not talking about the kind where I just buy shoes because I can't help it, although I sometimes have that kind of problem, too.
This particular issue arrises as a result of four pregnancies and the effect they have had on my feet. They've grown. This is to my utter dismay, as some of my favorite heels are now too small.
These little suede and patent lovelies have been calling my name for a good two years now, and this past weekend, I just couldn't ignore them any longer. So what is a girl to do but wedge her feet step-sister style into them!

At least I have a good excuse to go shoe shopping!
Wait a minute.
One never needs an excuse to shoe shop....what was I thinking?

The slightly cooler weather is my excuse to get all things fall/winter out and about.
Lately though, by lunchtime, I'm having to shed layers because it gets too warm. Boo.
In other news, our move is complete. However, we are not completely moved in. Contradictory? Yes.
About half of our stuff is still sitting unpacked in our new garage.
It is bugging the heck out of me that I cannot find simple things I need...i.e. finger nail clippers, my make-up mirror, and sippy cup stoppers. I'm sure they're all randomly hiding in the same box in the very back of the garage.
I guess until I find them, I'll just have to suffer with jagged nails, misapplied make-up, and my two year old leaking milk from her cup.
Hopefully, we'll get to that garage this weekend. And paint. And clean. Or sleep.
To Toms...or Not To Toms
That is the question...
I had wanted a pair of Toms for a good long while. I love the concept of the business...donating a pair of shoes to a needy child is a wonderful charity.I have a weird thing with buying shoes, though. I live in constant fear (okay just sporadic fear) of buying my shoes too big or small. (My feet are different sizes.) My temperamental shoe sizing has resulted in several pairs of shoes in my wardrobe being too small for me. Grrrrr.
Knowing that Toms have a stretch factor, I was a little hesitant to get them for fear of getting the wrong size, having too much stretch, and thus having to give them away or have them collect dust in my closet. You get the picture.
Well, they are in fact a little small.
Not too small to prevent me from wearing them though. I'm determined to stretch them out a bit more to my liking. I'll talk sweet to them and cross my fingers they'll oblige.
And when they do...I will be content. If not, maybe they're just not for everyone.
Are they for you?
