Capturing Family Christmas Pictures {November Blogathon}
This past weekend, after getting back from the wedding we shot in west Texas...we attempted Christmas pictures of our own. I can't tell you exactly how many family sessions I've had over the past two month, but I know for sure there has been a lot...mainly of families with young children. We seem to be able to get the shot, most everyone smiles, looks happy, etc. So you'd think getting a few pictures of my own kids would be a piece of cake right? Well most years I've ended up yelling at my mom (or dad) and gone straight looney-tunes...so I figured this year, we'd just attempt the kids (no parents) to keep our my sanity in check. And you know what?....It wasn't that bad. I'll do a big reveal here after our Christmas cards go out (I'm weird like that), but here are a few Christmas pictures from years past.

A Few Of My Photography Faves
Since today's November Blogathon prompt references a post I've already written (here), I thought I'd just share what I've been up to the past month...what has consumed nearly all of my time. In a good way, of course.
This time of year for photography is super busy, as everyone wants pictures for their holiday cards and basically, it's just a really great season for layered clothing, fall-colored trees, and the overall feeling of nostalgia. So today I'm sharing with you a few of my favorites of late.

Artifact Uprising Giveaway
Being in roles of both a momma of four and a photographer/blogger, I take a LOT of pictures. It's what I do. But about three years ago, I stopped printing those pictures out...whether it was time, hassle, or just pure laziness...the thousands of images have remained on my computer or hard drives. It's actually pretty sad when my kids come to me wanting a picture of the family for school or to frame one for their room...and I'm all...uh, let me get back to you on that one. 5 Tips For Photographing Kids
Blake and white photos are just the best, aren't they? I know a lot of people prefer color (I always ask my clients and they generally tell me so anyway), but the timelessness, emotion, and classic look of a black and white image just does it for me.
Several weeks ago, I partnered with Austin Moms Blog for some summer mini-sessions offered to AMB readers...nine to be exact. I loved how they turned out, but wouldn't you know, the black and white were my faves of all the kids...even in a setting where the vivid colors of the watermelon were one of the main components of the shoot.
Here's a few of my favorites:
Photographing children is both super rewarding AND challenging...and maybe a bit more on the challenging side at times. Having the experience of both photographing my four children over the years, as well as shooting numerous children/family clients, there are some key pointers I use every single time that help the whole shoot run smoothly and produce the best images possible.
Thus, here are my 5 TIPS FOR PHOTOGRAPHING KIDS:
Strange Nostalgia
Well, all my senior sessions are now over and done with...which I'm a little sad about. I love shooting seniors. They've got this confidence about them that makes me excited to think what lies ahead for these grads. Everything, truly.
This sweet girl is just beginning her high school career next year...another exciting time. I loved my high school years...which I think is becoming more rare for kids these days. (gosh, I sound old) In fact, I presented my dad's memorial scholarship last night at my Alma Mater's athletic banquet and it seemed very nostalgically strange. It was like one of those dreams where you know you're in your own home, but it's not your house...you know those kind? Sitting there last night, I could remember sitting through similar banquets, walking through the same doors, the smell, etc....yet, everything is so different. I really hope things don't change so drastically before my own children reach that age, where our experiences don't even resemble each other. I think that might just be wishful thinking, though...
Do you have fond memories of high school?
Oh, and did you know that this graduating class of high school seniors was born in 1996/1997?
The don't even remember the 90's.
They don't really know life before 9/11.
They don't know life without cell phones.
Mind blown.
In the Bluebonnets
I had some bluebonnet mini sessions last night and it was so much fun with these adorable families...who's mommas just happen to be my good friends, too!
We were out in an open field (read: no shade), and it was fun playing with the colors of the wildflowers in that diffused light. So gorgeous and blast for me as a photographer!

1. Tomorrow I'll be attending the grand opening of the new Sees Candy here in Austin! I am SUPER pumped about this and about my "plus one" date, who's a Sees fanatic. I'm thrilled to take her along to experience the new store first hand!
Fotography Friday
How did Friday get here already? This was the fastest week ever!!!
I've been super busy planning our Moms Night Out event for Austin Moms Blog (at Blo in the Domain for you local peeps), homeschooling (news to report on that front, but I'll save it for next week), and getting ready for the next week of photo session craziness. My first of this string of sessions was last night on the Texas State campus, shooting my cousin for her graduation pics.

I have been dragging my feet on getting a proper photography website for my business...I know I need to. My blog and facebook page just aren't cutting it, so I guess I need to figure out how I should go about doing that. But for now, I thought I'd just share a few of the quick edits I did from last night.
In Which We Tried Soccer...Again
^^^ Practice was great! I mean, look at the joy on her face. She dribbled and kicked, and honestly, I was kind of impressed at her agility for a 4 year old. ^^^
^^^ All smiles....she loves soccer...it's all pink cleats, turquoise jerseys, and FUN! ^^^
And then some one....some one...told her right before the game started, that the game of soccer actually consists of playing against other kids who are trying to steal the ball away and score at their own goal. And when the game began, that she would have to run, keep the ball away from the other team, and score....but of course, have fun while doing it. Pretty standard, right? I mean, we figured we should give her a heads up about what was about to go down, as I'm pretty sure she had never actually witnessed a soccer game. I now realize we should have had that conversation before we signed her up.
This is about where it all came undone.
And this is about where I had a detailed, visceral flashback to 3 years ago when we went through this EXACT. SAME. THING. I was so incredulous that all I could do was laugh at the situation.
Really???? Really!!! It's just soccer!!!!! Are we really doing this again?!? I was so sure this time would be different. Blakely is our feisty one...Miss "I Don't Care". She was SO pumped about this. What on Earth made her balk at the thought of a (gasp) competition is beyond me.
After most of the game went on like this, Coach Daddy finally decided to help her along (read: make her play) by holding her hand and running along. This is seemed to work...almost magically.
I thought, wait...is she totally playing us???
^^^ That little face tells me she knew exactly what she was doing all along. ^^^
I'll just make a big fuss and act like my sisters did when they played soccer and surely Daddy will end up letting me hold his hand the entire rest of the game and be my security blanket FOREVER!!!! Muahahahaha. I've got 'em right where I want 'em.
