Hey friends...Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine was fairly eventful, starting with attending and presenting at the Pinners Conference. I taught a class on personal style, dos and don'ts, and tips for feeling your best when getting dressed. I was SO grateful to have this opportunity and loved every minute of it. (My outfit I wore for the presentation below.) Those who attended my class were amazing and contributed so much to the conversation....thanks y'all!
The night before presenting, we attended the V.I.P. night and met some new people and brands. I would HIGHLY encourage you to attend one of these conferences if you ever get the chance. Pinners Conference originated in Utah, but now holds four separate conferences in Texas, Arizona, Georgia, and Utah. It's basically Pinterest in real life...crafts, shops, hair, beauty, style and so much more. They really did a wonderful job putting on the Texas conference this year!
There's just a few more days left in the Nsale and inventory is getting pretty low. I was checking out some products today and lots of them were already sold out. And the other day when I was in the store exchanging some shoes, a style was in stock online...but by the time I got home, it was sold out! So I thought I'd post about what IS STILL in stock for those of you shopping the sale in its final hours. Don't get me wrong...I'm still shopping it too, just having to be smart about it, you know? Also, just for reference, you can shop the top sellers HERE.
I've put together a few favorites of mine that are still in stock and are super great deals. I'm obsessed with the pleated leather midi skirt, the MAC brush set, and the cropped flares! Don't miss out on what you'll be needing both now AND in the fall...prices go up after August 7.
We made it to the end of the week, my friends!!!! Gosh, summer is winding down and I'm just not ready for it to be over. How did it fly by so fast?!?
We're headed off to our last little getaway this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it. I'll make sure to post all about our adventures when we get home. But for now, I'm totally in love with my Nordstrom Sale finds (check out my best finds under $50 HERE)...especially this peasant top and these flare jeans! I've worn both twice already! In truth, I was a bit doubtful these cropped flares would be flattering on my shorter legs, but worn with tall shoes, I kinda love them! All of these new denim silhouettes are so refreshing...I think we all needed a good break from skinny jean, am I right?
I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! If you're in the mood for some shopping, the Nordstrom Sale is still going strong (and they've re-stocked some items that previously sold out), Lands End has a great backpack sale right now, and Old Navy has some big back-to-school deals as well!
Happy Humpday Friends! I'm off to a girls week at the beach, but before I left, I just wanted to share this amazing new dress! It's a swing dress (sometimes called trapeze dress) with just the right length and sleeves!!!! Of course, I bought it in black, but I'm thinking of getting some more colors too!
In other news (actually the same news I've been posting about recently), the Nordstrom Sale is still going strong and will be open to non-cardholders (the public) on Friday!!! While I've spotlighted some of the best deals under $50 and my favorite shoe finds for under $100...I've also curated a Pinterest Board as a place to keep EVERYTHING good that I've discovered in the #NSale! Many of the items are already selling out or low inventory (meaning the popular sizes are almost gone), so don't waste time if you're planning to score some great deals! Also, I talked here about how great this sale is and why everyone should take advantage...as well as some tips to shop most efficiently (as it can be a chore to sort through the thousands of sale items). I hope you all have a fabulous rest of the week...and I'll see ya' on the flip side!
The amazing shoe deals to be had at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale are outta this world! You're sure to find any and all types of shoe that you're closet is in need of...especially in the bootie, pump, or athletic varieties! I've narrowed down for you my picks for the best shoe finds, ALL UNDER $100!

All my shoe faves from the sale in one place (below)...I've snagged the Lucky Brand peep-toe and hopefully some cute booties soon!
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale starts tomorrow, and while it might not be on your radar (yet), I want to share some of the reasons it's truly the BEST SALE EVER...and tips on how to best take advantage. This sale not only provides the opportunity to get a jump on fall fashion for a fraction of the price, but with the free shipping (and easy returns) Nordstrom offers, it's kind of a no-brainer. Nordstrom is my favorite store hands down...always on trend, high quality, great customer service, plus fab sales like this one held annually!
1. Tomorrow when the sale starts, take some time to go through a make a wish list. If you are on a budget, just set your filter "under $50" or something similar. Nordstrom has all sorts of price points and I usually get tops there for under $30 during this sale! Hand that list over to your hubby or use it as a guide to keep an eye on the items you really want.
2. When unsure, order more than you need. For example, last year I couldn't decide between 3 different pairs of booties, so I ordered all 3 of them. Once I tried each on, it was clear which was the winner and I easily sent back the others free of charge...lickity split! Not only does this save you buyer's remorse and the hassle of driving to your nearest Nordstrom, but you get the flexibility you would as if you're in the store yourself!
3. Use the filter to search your favorite (and/or most budget-friendly) brands. Nordstrom has tons of brands (Lush, BP, Caslon) that are both affordable and on point style-wise! Strategically shopping in this was will save you time and allow a focus on your particular niche of brands/price-point/etc.
4. Take advantage of "early access" starting tomorrow (7/14). Early access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is for Nordstrom cardholders. I personally have a Nordstrom debit card and get points every time I use it in the store or online. You receive rewards and special perks as a card holder...namely getting to shop the sale before everyone else and before things start selling out! (July 22 starts the sale for non-cardholders.)
5. Check out the fall trends or looks you'd like to add to your closet this year. For me, I have my eye out for some new booties, a really great flat, some cute tops, and a cute dress or two. When you plan for what you "need", you can shop more intentionally and smart.
>>> Stay connected via Facebook and Instagram as I will be posting throughout the next couple of weeks all the deals, steals, and finds from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! Can you tell I'm excited!!!!????
While I had pretty much stuck to a capsule wardrobe this last fall/winter, introducing a few "creative" pieces into the rotation this spring has been quite fun! This striped cape is one of those fun pieces, as well as my adventure with overalls a few weeks back. These kinds of trendier looks pair best with neural, understated basics...black, white, wood accents, etc.
It's about to get REAL HOT here in Texas, and so I'm hanging on for dear life to the chances I get to wear a little jacket or cardigan...or cape! Summer is coming peeps.
Howdy y'all!!! It feels really great to be back from our vacay, but oh it sure is hard coming back to real life. Monday morning packs a punch when you've had no worries or cares for the last 7 days! We had SUCH a wonderful time and I can't wait to share it...but for today I have for you a "smart style" outfit post!
You know those days when you want to look really put together and chic? Yesterday was one of those days. I was speaking in church in the morning, but knew I'd be in the clothes for most of the day and comfort was key. When I put this outfit together, I originally intended to tuck in the blouse (read: re-tucking required all the day long), but decided belting it was both easier and made the look a bit more interesting. Who doesn't love a neon pink belt!?! But really, when comfort trumps, there's usually always a work-around to make an outfit a bit more easy to wear.
How long have jumpsuits been around lately? (And of course, by "lately", I mean since they've made a re-emergence from the 70's and 80's.) Let's be generous and say a year...
So in that year, I've seen some really cute jumpsuits (as well as some not-so-cute ones), and thought...I want to try out that look. I can pull it off....maybe? right? But it would have to be JUST the right one. Pulling the trigger on this piece of clothing has not been a quick drawl. A jumpsuit usually looks really flattering (and elongating) for most, but I wanted to make sure I got it right.
Enter this CAbi jumpsuit from their new "In The Sun" Spring addition. Not only is it super soft and comfy, but the adjustable straps and drawstring waist allows me to adjust it to fit me just right. This is truly a versatile piece that can be dressed up with heels or dressed down to wear poolside as a cover-up. I can't wait to see how many ways I can wear it this season! Jumpsuits for the win!
Happy Spring Break!!!! Spring has sprung and it's glorious! I know I talk a big talk about loving cold weather (and despising everything else), but man...it's hard to beat a crisp morning that blossoms into a clear, cool, beautiful day!
This striped tee is on repeat and I'm not sorry about it. Mainly because I just snagged another (almost identical one) from Old Navy this morning, and I think I may have a little obsession...Hello my name is Kristen, and I'm a striped tee addict.
This week, we're doing dance intensives for Tyler Bree, headed to H-Town tomorrow for the Houston stock show, and then turn around and head back to Houston again this weekend for a wedding (it's formal attire and I have NOTHING to wear!!!). Spring Break sure filled up with a bunch of little things that prevented us from going anywhere special, so I'm hoping we can make Houston kind of a getaway of sorts for the kids. Definitely for the girls at least, as their entire goal for the trip is to step inside the American Girl store...aka, "heaven" for little girls and "money pit" for adults.
What are your plans for Spring Break??? I hope it's a great one!!!! XOXO!
Hi-ya friends! Are you feeling as sluggish this post-DST Monday as I am? Sheesh...the gloomy weather doesn't help. I can hear my bed calling my name,
"Kriiiiiiiiiiiiiisten. Come baaaaaaaaack to meeeeeeeeee."
So I've got to tell you about the newest addition to join my closet. I rarely go to the mall....like hardly EVER. But last week I found myself with some time to kill and I just so happened to be near the mall. SO, into Forever 21 I went. I'm not a huge fan of F21, but when in Rome....plus I'm on the prowl for some cute cruise-wear (t minus 1 month!).
While I was in there, nothing really caught my attention until I spotted several racks of similar long sweaters. They were all gray, but cut differently. Telling myself they'd only make my legs look short, I went ahead and tried one on to prove myself right. To my surprise, it not only fell perfectly and was the ideal length, but it didn't make my legs looker short...imagine that! If anything, it was somewhat elongating! WHAT?!? A mere $20 later, that baby was heading home with me and thrown into an outfit as fast as it could. Seriously, I wore it both Saturday to bunco AND to church on Sunday. Normally I would say a piece like this can't be worn too often because it's fairly unique and memorable....
Spring is in the air, isn't it? Well, more like...I can sense its imminent arrival. It's always a challenge to dress this time of year, seasonaly speaking. For me as a Texan, I try to get the most wear out of my winter clothes, because we don't have many cold/wintery days around here and I gotta get my bang for the buck. So when February comes (which basically is just early Spring for us), I'm torn between still wanting to savor those heavy winter pieces, while also feeling the urge to transition to lighter colors and fabrics.
This outfit serves both desires, as it can be worn in both ways. I paired it with boots here and layered a light jacket (jacket not pictured so the cool asymmetrical back hem could show) for a more wintery look...but next time I'll probably take it more Spring-like with heels and light scarf. I love how outfits can work double for me and my closet! Definitely plan to have these blush jeans on repeat! Aren't they just the perfect color!?!

Tonight I'm missing bunco (insert here a moment of silence for me please...this momma does NOT like missing her bunco night), for a double date with one of our great friends we've known forever, who just so happens to be recently engaged! This evening we'll head out to Fixe in Austin for dinner and in planning for it, I got to thinking of what the perfect date night entails....so here are my thoughts on the matter. No hard and fast rules, but some general guidelines to make your date night looks extra "smart"!
>>>Date Night Outfit VIBE >>> A little bit Flirty and a little bit Spicy
Ex: This lace top brings that flirty, girly vibe, while the metallic heels bring the bit of spice...as does the red lipstick.
>>>Date Night Outfit Essentials >>> Heels, a simple low-maintenance clutch, sophisticated jacket/sweater.
>>> The clutch is the ideal accessory as it's so multi-purpose. It can hold any necessities (who wants to bring along their big ol' mom tote for date night?), can add a pop of color (hello RED!), and gives your hands something to do!
>>> Heels and a sophisticated jacket round out any outfit...both upping the dressiness factor and makes an outfit look well thought-out and on-purpose. Style Tip: Contrast a frilly detail (like the lace top) with a structured jacket and masculine sunnies for the ideal balance.
I had visions of relaxing pool days, free/open schedules, and basically living it up with all my kids home.
But it turns out, we've had an awfully busy summer so far...which has made it almost impossible for my blog about my summer style and outfits due to munchkins being my only possible options for photographers. There tends to a rather high degree of camera shake...shocking, I know.
So instead, I've tried to take some selfies of my outfits as of late, to hopefully one day do a comprehensive blog post about them and share some of what I'm diggin' these days of summer.
And today is that day!
