Whether to Share Your Kids' Names on Your Blog

I've planned this post all week.  I had made a decision to change something that I've stuck to since I started The Mrs. & The Momma several years ago.

You see, I don't share my kids' names on my blog.  Sure, you could probably figure them out if you dig hard enough through my social media looking at comments from people who know my kids.  But I've always felt like this was a way to protect them.  But on the other hand, I've always felt like this was a wall I put up between me and my readers...that they y'all couldn't really, truly connect with me when I'm referring to my "third daughter" or "my son"...especially in posts were I talk about some serious family stuff.  I know I sure don't when I read other blogs.  It seems just surface level.

So I had made up my mind.  I was going to have a nice little post with cute pictures and explain all of the above to you and then introduce my children by their real names.

But there was still a nagging inside my head....
"What if some one wants to find them?"
"What if some one steals their identity?"
What if, what if, what if.

And now, I just don't know.  I get it that it's not a big deal.  Maybe you couldn't care less.  Maybe I'm over analyzing this, as most other mom bloggers share loads more than just their kid's names and they seem to be doing just dandy.

So after sitting here for thirty or so minutes hee-hawing around my decision (or lack thereof) husband put an end to my obsessing and said he feels like it's fine to share.  And that's exactly what I needed.  For him to tell me what to this situation anyway, where my overthinking mind gets the better of me.

Are you ready for the most anticlimactic post-ending ever???

Drum roll, please....

My kids' names are:
Tyler Bree, Riley, Blakely, and Bennett

Hello?  Is this thing on?

Sorry for the long explanation...but now you know.  I'm glad we had this little talk.
*Please weigh in with your opinions or questions on this matter, if you have any.

As a head's up, tomorrow's BEST OF post will spotlight all of my Texas Style Council lady friends and their fab blogs you should be following.  Come link up your style posts of the week!!!

  1. Thank you for sharing. :) I know this was a big step for you, and I'm happy you made the choice that you did! And your kids' adorable names match their adorable faces, obviously! ;)

  2. I have always wondered their names and so glad you shared! I love how unique they are :) I esp love Blakely

  3. 1) love their names! 2) Have been thinking about this a lot lately!!!

  4. Since I already know their names that part wasn't super suspenseful (haha), but it was fun to see whether you'd actually say them or not!! :)

  5. I can understand where you are coming from. I think it is good to be a little overcautious about your children when it comes to exposing their lives online.

  6. I thought about sharing my kids' names on the blog especially when I had my third and EVERYONE wanted to know. But I decided that I was just more comfortable with keeping their names private. So I made a big deal out of revealing her "blog name" on my blog and people seemed pretty happy with that. If it were just my decision, I would probably be okay with using their real names, but my husband is a very private person and isn't crazy about me putting so much out on the great big internet.

  7. I am just like you!! But, I was more concerned about posting pics of my little girl with her shirt off since she is a wee little baby, or naked bum pics. My friends started telling me about all this creeper stuff that she's heard of and it really got to me. I think it's a personal decision but it's also nice to be able to be personable and feel more intimate with readers I think and the only way to do that is to be real and let your readers in! Obviously not over sharing! It sort of lets your readers get to know your family on a personal level, as if they've met them face to face! Your kids are gorgeous and I love their names!! sorry for the rant lol!!

    XO Hannah

  8. I am actually one of those over cautious mothers, but that is because of my daughter's bio dad. He is not a good character and is not safe. I even restarted my entire blog, domain, and everything because I was contacted by him through the previous. I do however envy those that can freely share that information. I rarely even post pictures of her on my blog, you have to follow me on instagram for that! That is where I keep those types of intimate connections. I commend you for sharing that information, because our kids are personal and intimate details of us.

    1. Ooooh, yes I see why you wouldn't. Instagram is perfect for that!!! Thanks for sharing!

  9. I've thought about whether to use my husband and daughter's name as well. I call her Ally, it's short for her whole name which isn't hard to figure out. These days we have to think about protecting our kids so you do what's right for you. :-)
