Take-Aways From Texas Style Council

Disclaimer:  My ever-so-patient-with-me husband would like me to note that our new camera lens is taking him some getting used to, so please excuse the slightly blurry pics today (and Monday's).

So!  Today is the day that I share all of my wealth of knowledge I gained from the Texas Style Council conference.  Thankfully, I took pretty good notes or I'd be straining my brain to remember all the details!

Ready?  O-K!!!!
(yelled cheerleader-style)

>>>Must-Have iPhone Apps and other tips: Image Blender, Tiny Planet, VSCO, Snapseed, Afterglow.  Also, I was told NEVER to use the flash.  Like ever.  If you need it lighter, just tap on the screen and that should do the trick.

>>>Write a tag line for your business or blog...if you are having a hard time, do a word association exercise.  This will be on my to-do list.

>>>Streamline your online presence:  This one is a no-brainer, but for some reason, I had a different profile picture for each of my social media outlets.  I've since corrected this ghastly error.

>>>Budgeting:  You'll have more motivation to not use extra money and save it instead if you have specific labels on savings...i.e. room remodel, college savings, etc.

>>>Media Kits:  This session was probably the most helpful out of the entire conference (thanks Tieka!).  I've been dragging my feet on creating one and this workshop was just the push I needed.  Some of her tips were to use the best information from your "about" page, list past partnerships, tell what you can provide/offer, include email front and center as well as several times throughout.  Also, she gave a useful program to embed a pdf version of your media package on your sponsor page using Issuu.  Now I just need to find the time to get this one checked off my list!  Any graphic designers out there?!?

>>>Advanced Monetization:  I found that most of this wasn't news to me, but some helpful tips were that brands are now wanting more conversion rate statistics rather than just numbers...meaning they want to know what their actual ROI would be working with you.  Also, I was inspired to cross-promote via my social media outlets using different content, such as linking to my blog post on Facebook, but using outtake pictures rather than the ones found already in the post.  Good idea, huh?

>>>Pinterest:  This was the second-most helpful session of the conference for me.  Organize your boards with most important/relevant ones on top....and rotate depending on the season.  Have your pins be consistent with your brand.  I don't really do this, but I think I could work on it...right now, I just pin whatever I feel like even if it's totally not "me".  Get specific on pin descriptions...it not only adds better searchable material, but invites better engagement through repins and comments.

There's lots more I could write about all the wisdom shared at the conference, especially from the ladies of A Beautiful Mess...but I think I'll keep some of that to myself...or maybe save it for another day.
