How To Throw a Pirate Party On A Budget

Ever since we got back from the beach a couple of weekends ago, Bennett had it in his mind that he was having a pirate birthday party.  He has never before shown ANY interest in pirates, nor ever taken a stance on what type of party he preferred...NOR hit his momma with a pirate knife.  I mean...this kid.

So within a couple of days, I was able to put together a simple and cheap, but cute pirate party that we threw for him on Saturday with just family....and he LOVED it!  Here's how I did it in case your little one demands an "Aye, aye Captain" in response to whatever he says.

We had already gifted Bennett with a Pirate Duplo set and a Jake Treasure Chest....but he was missing the must-have eye patch and a proper sword.  Thankfully my mom had those covered!

For the cake, I just made a white cake box mix and then my own icing (butter, milk, powdered sugar, vanilla) tinted with black food coloring.  I found these Jake and the Neverland Pirates figurines and thought they'd be the perfect cake toppers...with the little addition of a treasure map-style of icing too.

As for the other decor, Target must have known I was coming because they had all sorts of pirate party stuff out!  Jackpot on the table cloth, plates, napkins, and cups.  I would definitely check Target before you look anywhere online...so easy and cheap.

Since this party was mid-afternoon, we didn't do any other food besides cake, ice cream, and drinks.  Afterwards, I was SO glad we hadn't stressed over preparing/buying party food as we have in years past.  He's three...cake and ice cream was all he wanted.  And besides, nobody's expecting to fill themselves up at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

Simple party on a simple budget is the Pirate Way!
