Thoughts On Being Busy

I was looking through some pictures from the past month and came across these of my four kids I took after my Dad's funeral.  We had gone out to my parents' place in the country and just hung out with family for the rest of the day.

Tyler Bree and Riley proudly got their hair styled by my cousin and the two little ones kept busy in the sand. It had been a very long day and I remember being thankful we were finally all there together...because at the time, I hadn't really seen my kids in several days.

You know, our lives have been an absolute whirlwind since then, and it makes me wonder about how busy we are when there's not a funeral...or Christmas...or vacation to distract me.  We are a busy family.  I know most people are.  But I don't relish in that fact.  I resent it, actually.  I don't like being busy.  I don't like having to constantly be on my kids to get things done or get ready to go somewhere...or rush, rush, rush...

I just want to be.

And to make that "be" happen, I need to really look at what we can cut out.  What will enable our family to spend more unstructured time together to make better memories, to capture more photos, to just be living in the moment?  We have a few Saturdays coming up with nothing planned, and I could not be more looking forward to this time.  Sure, we'll probably get out of the house, but hopefully it's to explore nature or find a new experience to do together.  Crossing my fingers.

I know my kids' childhoods are flying by...it's evident in my lack of memory of the past year and a half.  But I've got to do my darnedest to make it slow just a little bit.  Even the slightest.

Because those babies....they just don't keep.
And you never know what tomorrow brings.

  4. Such a good reminder in a world where it seems like being busy is celebrated. I hate that it feels so wasteful to just rest and savor. Thanks for this today!
