Favorite Fall Recipe + Halloween Recap {November Blogathon}

Hey there Party People!  Happy Tuesday!
So to continue this week's "Fall State of Mind" theme, today's November Blogathon prompt is to share your favorite Fall recipe.  Well, my baking is pretty much non-existent in all other seasons besides Fall/Winter...so to pick just ONE that I love most when my food Pinterest board is begging to be let loose this time of year is like picking my favorite, well.....thing to eat.  Bad example.

But if we really get down to it, there is one recipe that I absolutely LOVE.  It's not a traditional Fall recipe, but once it hits your lips you'll want to make it for the rest of your life.  Enter --> Burgundy Mushrooms from The Pioneer Woman.  Pure heaven I tell ya'.  They take almost an entire day to cook, making the mushroom texture meat-like.  You should see the salivation going on right now as I write this...seriously, folks.  Add it to your Thanksgiving menu right NOW.

Pioneer Woman Burgundy Mushrooms:

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds White Button Mushrooms
  • 2 sticks Butter
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 quarts Burgundy Wine (other Reds Will Work)
  • 1 teaspoon Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • 2 cups Boiling Water
  • 4 whole Chicken Bouillon Cubes
  • 4 whole Beef Bouillon Cubes
  • 1 teaspoon Dill Seed
  • 5 cloves Garlic, Peeled
  • 2 teaspoons Salt

Preparation Instructions

Thoroughly wash the mushrooms and throw them into a large stockpot. Add all the remaining ingredients except the salt. Stir to combine.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, for six hours.
Remove the lid, then continue cooking, uncovered, for three hours.
Add salt to taste at the end if desired. The mushrooms will be very dark in color. Simmer until needed. Server straight from the pot or in a serving bowl. Dip crusty bread in the juice---yum!
Mushrooms keep for days in the fridge. You'll love 'em!

As a bit of a Halloween recap, all three girls were Elsa, with custom-made costumes made just for them.  My hopes and dreams were shattered that they didn't want to do an ensemble theme...I mean, how cute would Bennett have been as Olaf???  Anyway, he was a ruthless pirate instead, without his eye patch because after searching endlessly for it, of course it turned up yesterday.
Trick-or-Treating was great and they thoroughly enjoy it...however, next year we'll be staying in our own neighborhood.  I can't stand crowds with Trick-or-Treating.  Not only is it unsafe in the dark, but just no thank you.  Also, we saw so many teenagers dressed up going door to door...WHERE ARE THEIR MOTHERS???  I had to twist my parents' arm to allow me to Trick-or-Treat when I was in 7th grade...and then thereafter it was a firm "you are too old".   And do you know what?  I agreed with them then, and I do now....especially when those older kids dress up in frightening costumes which I can't shield my kids from seeing, resulting in a kid in our bed at 1am.  Okay, stepping off my soap box.  Here's some pics from the other night:

  1. Well, they look precious! My boys are all 5 years apart and I could never get anyone to dress in anything that went together -- even remotely! :o/ My oldest is 15. He said he was going to trick-or-treat and I think he was kidding, but I reminded him if has to shave, he's to old! :) I linked up my favorite recipe for ya! And.... I am SMITTEN over PW's recipes! She's my fave and those mushrooms are certainly drool worthy!!!

  3. I'm really looking forward to trying the mushrooms! My husband loves them and I'm not a fan so it's always nice to surprise him. I linked up with one of my family favorites as well.
