Wedding Style: Shopping Your Own Closet
This weekend we took a quick trip up to Dallas for one of my college friend's wedding. My husband called it a "vacation" to which I expressed my doubts on what he considers a vacation since it would hardly fall into my category of one....but he then he explained that any time away from all 4 kids can be considered a vacation. Touche.
It was a beautiful wedding with such a lovely couple, to which we felt so honored to attend. Here's a few snapshots from the reception with my dear friends and hubby. I just love these girls!
(Hmmm, I'm starting to see a trend...maybe I need to change up my pose!)
In deciding what to wear and after determining I didn't have anything suitable in my own closet, I tried two different dresses at Target that ended up not working out. And I didn't have time (or the funds) to shop properly at places that I knew I'd find something. So as it turns out, I actually did wear pieces I've had for a long time and have worn many occasions. My trusty polka dot blazer, which has made quite a few appearances here on the blog. And a floral dress, that's been seen around these parts, too. Even though I felt like I wore an outfit that I "always wear", I knew that it worked....even though I felt annoyed about it.
dress: Banana Republic (similar), blazer: F21 (similar), shoes: JustFab (exact), clutch: Charming Charlie (similar), belt: F21(similar)
(Oh and please excuse the iPhone pics...I was gonna whip out my big camera with all those wedding photogs around, but that would have been awkward, not to mentione a few ticks short of crazy wedding attendee trying to pose as a photographer.)
When attending an event like this, we want to look your best no doubt.
Have you had experiences where you just have to settle and go with a proven (or old) style that works for you....even it you've worn it a million times?
How do you feel about it?
Sure, we'd all love to shop for a new outfit anytime we have somewhere to go, but sometimes it just doesn't happen....whether it's not in our budget, or we don't have time, or maybe we're just are in a style funk and can't find anything suitable. I been there. But I've decided that it just doesn't matter. Yes, what you wear affects how you feel, but when circumstances don't allow for new clothes, you just have to put your big girl panties on, give yourself a pep talk, and realize that your appearance doesn't define you.
Can I get an amen?

Hey Jenny! Thanks girl!
DeleteI think you nailed it regardless of you being annoyed....great colors and perfect for spring! Looks like you guys had fun....and the hubs is right....anytime away from the kiddos is a vacation for me too! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks girl. Your cute outfits always give me the itch to shop...so I blame it on you. ;)
DeleteI am in the same boat for a wedding happening in a couple of weeks. As it is a spring wedding I can't default to my favorite little black dresses --- meaning that I must choose from all 2 dresses I have in color. I've found that mixing it up with new or unexpected accessories makes me feel better about a repeat dress. At least it will photograph differently... :D
ReplyDeleteYes, good plan with the accessories. Isn't it frustrating?! I'm sure you'll look fab!
Deletestunning pattern mixing, i love that you've got three prints here!

When I'm in a crunch...whether financially or time wise, I always go back to my trusty classic outfit. Your looked gorgeous for the wedding, my friend!
ReplyDeleteTotally with you on this one! My budget is a tight so I've been shopping my closet often. While it's definitely annoying (who doesn't want something brand spanking new?!), you can't really go wrong with an old stand-by!
ReplyDeleteAdorable outfit! Love the pattern mixing. =)
