How To: Extend the Life of Your Mani

If your nails are anything like mine, your polish usually begins to look like this about 2 or 3 days into the manicure.  (And I'm talking about self-painted nails....those salons use some crazy magic stuff.)

Due to this repetitive cycle, my nails don't get painted often.  Because let's face it, chipped nails are tacky and I really don't have the time to re-polish them every three days.

Enter:  The Mrs. and The Momma's Manicure Extender (so very official sounding, huh?)

Just tip the chipped nails with a different color nail polish (i.e. white, black, red, etc.) or use some sort of overlay polish such as a crackle (I use OPI Shatter Nail Lacquer in Silver), and what do you have?  No more chipped nails!

Each one of these options is shown below. I recommend picking one color/style, but hey, whatever floats your boat.  I ended up leaving it this way and actually got compliments on my nails!  I don't think they looked close enough, or they'd have realized I have Multiple Nail Personality Disorder, or MNPD. (Again, very official.)

Please excuse the crooked middle finger.  The traumatizing story is for another time.
This isn't meant to look professional (unless you have a rocksteady non-dominant hand), but it is a quick fix if you're needing to have decent-looking nails and don't have the time to completely re-do your manicure.  This will buy at least a couple more days before you have to break out the nail polish remover.

I think my favorite is the black, but the longest lasting is the crackle.  Black tips, especially with this pink, look awesome but it's hard to get that perfect line doing it free-hand.

So whaddaya think?  Will you use this technique?  Or have you already?
